A Romantic Multicultural Destination Wedding in Mexico | Genya + Erik Shenko Photography

The reason is you.

I have an absolute stunner to share with you today! We’re heading off to sunny Mexico for a beautiful wedding that you won’t soon forget!

Meet the very lovely Xuan, of Chinese heritage, and Ibrahim of Pakistani heritage who beautifully blended their cultures together in a stunning destination wedding in Mexico. They chose to have a destination wedding with their nearest and dearest and married the Blue Venado Beach Club in Playa Del Carmen on the Riviera Maya – an incredible spot for their intimate destination wedding! The views as you can see are quite literally to die for  (as you will see in their wedding video below) and are a reminder of the appeal to have a destination wedding in guaranteed sunshine!

Although the couple prefer to keep some of the details of their day private, there’s no missing how much they absolutely adore each other. Wait until you read their descriptions of what it was like as Xuan floated up the aisle – they really did only have eyes for one another!

This epic wedding was captured by the brilliant Genya + Erik Shenko Photography, who are making their Nu Bride debut here today!

Coming Together

I know other couples say it, but our wedding really was the best day of our lives! We chose to have an off-resort wedding because it offered us the flexibility we wanted. Our guests could stay in whichever hotels and resorts they chose to. Some friends stayed in Cancun and some stayed on 5th Avenue in PDC; the rest stayed with us in Paradisus La Perla. We all got to taste the different styles of food, and enjoy the view and beach in Blue Venado.

We really enjoyed working with Shenko Photography for our wedding pictures. We also had pre-wedding session, so we could get to know our photographers better and warm up a bit ourselves.

Our video was produced by Cinematik, who we would also recommend.

Event coordination was done by the in-house planner at Blue Venado.

The Ceremony

My favourite moment was when I was walking down the aisle.

In my culture, there is no such a thing as walking down the aisle. I never knew it could be so beautiful!

Unlike most couples, we didn’t practise it, although I had imagined that moment hundreds of times in my mind! It was the first time ever that my eyes saw only one person in the world. I completely forgot everything – the people around us, my mother who was walking beside me, the music that was being played, my bridesmaids, etc. I saw the crystals hanging from our arch sparkling, while my husband-to-be was standing there and waiting for me with his charming smile.

I got very emotional and ran towards him! It was the most perfect moment of my life.

Ibrahim had a similar experience. His favourite moment was also when I walked down the aisle towards him.

He says:

My groomsmen were talking non-stop and teasing me, but at that moment, I couldn’t see or hear anything but her. All I could think about was that this incredible woman was going to be my wife. I have never felt more sure or confident about anything in my life.

Top Tip for Other Couples

Our wedding was the best day of our lives! The day went by so fast, just like all the other married couples said it would. We couldn’t ask for more but wish that day could have lasted longer. So please take a moment to step back and enjoy it.
