A Midsummers Nights Dream Caribbean-Dutch Wedding at Pembroke Lodge | Parrott and Pineapple

I have a stunning Caribbean British – Dutch union to share with you today at delicious Pembroke Lodge, Richmond Say hello to Gary and Georgie who celebrated their marriage in the area they first met. They

Say hello to Gary and Georgie.

Former DJ Georgie and Gary met in Richmond (and married back where it all started) and connected over their mutual love of music.

With a touch of nature, laid back elegance, a dash of A Midsummers Nights Dream and even a cameo appearance from Meghan and Harry. Enjoy this beautiful union of this joyful duo, who even overcame a car accident on their wedding day that put things into perspective.

Such a pleasure to share this special day with you punctuated by these joyful images from the incredible Rowan at Parrott and Pineapple –  their debut feature on Nu Bride.

The Proposal

The proposal happened twice. We were out in May 2016 in Richmond for our joint birthday celebrations with all of our close friends.  The first time Gary proposed was after an awful amount of drink. The next day I wasn’t sure he’d remembered, but his social media accounts said otherwise, so there was no going back.

Gary did propose again, with a ring, sober at Drakes in Brighton in the following September. This time I have to say it was me that couldn’t really remember what had happened. Needless to say, we both remembered one of the proposals so it was a definite yes on both counts.

Coming Together

Our big focus was music. Music is a shared love of ours. We spent a long time planning what we wanted to be played throughout the day. The decor was a reflection of our laid back natures and continuation of growth

The venue we choose didn’t have the option to bring in outside catering. I was worried that there would be no Caribbean food. I really didn’t need to worry, everyone loved the food. The DJ played a very select playlist, we had reggae, soul, rock, house, garage, some 50’s and 60’s music which everyone, from the venue staff, photographer’s, friends and family commented on how good it was

The Dress:

I chose a Wtoo brides Enid gown by Watters. I bought the dress in the first and only bridal boutique I visited. (Nu Bride: Whoop!) I chose this gown because it was classic and elegant. Not at all what I thought I would go for as I like the whole boho look. However, it just felt right.

The Suit:

Gary wore a Hugo Boss suit, a huge step away from Rock Tees and converse, he always looks handsome in a suit

Stand out suppliers we want to mention who helped us create our day were definitely our photographer; Rowan of Parrott and Pineapple. We didn’t want stuffy, formal, uncomfortable pictures. It was so natural, organic, happy and colourful. She captured us, all of our friends and family to perfection. She captured the happiness and vibe of the day. We have to say meeting her was one of our favourite parts of wedding planning. She made the whole process easy, so glad she was there to enjoy it with us!

Others we want to mention who did an absolutely fantastic job are our florists Stems & Bows, the team at Pembroke Lodge, the wonderful team at Emma Elizabeth Bridal, our stationer Beija For Studio, our entertainment by DJ2k  and the team at My Fun Photo Booth . We had such a great team to help us celebrate.

The Ceremony

I used to be a DJ, as we love music and regularly go to gigs. We decided that as our tastes are so eclectic we would have a bit it of everything. Whilst guest were arriving we had quartet music playing of covers like Pink Floyd, Blacksabath, Fleetwood Mac, The Game of Thrones theme tune etc.

I walked down the aisle to Jimi Hendrix, Foxy Lady.

We signed the register to a cover by Jasmine Thompson of Sweet Child of Mine, as Gary is a huge fan of Guns N Roses. Walking back up the aisle we played ‘Nowhere to Run to’ by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.

The reading we chose were the lyrics to Led Zeppelin’s Thank you. We wanted a relaxed vibe and we felt the music reflected that.

Our ceremony was definitely our favourite part of the day. Our favourite part of the ceremony was walking in with Harry and Megan masks.  My Middle name is Cordelia which I’m not overly keen on and Gary would emphasise this during our vows which made a few people laugh (Nu Bride: LOL!). I loved that my brother walked me down the aisle, he made me laugh so much. (Nu Bride: I adore this).

The Reception

We wanted A Midsummers Night Dream look, very green and natural.

We also wanted to have arrangements that had multiple uses to cut down on waste. The bridal bouquet was used on the ceremony table, which was green foliage and some small white flowers. Fresh White and Greens with gold accents. Mix of wild and natural interesting and textured foliages, twisted willow, Green bell, Thistle, Euchalyptus, White Veronica, Herbs, Scabious, Ammi Majus, Amarathus.

The aisle candles were filled with moss and the used as centrepieces. We wanted our guest to take away something that would continue to grow with them too, hence the succulents that we used as favours and name places

We chose these because we wanted our guests to go home with something they would have to continue to care for and each time they did they would have memories of the part they played in making our day so special.

The buttonholes were white thistle. We mixed all of our family and friends up, as it’s easy to sit within your comfort zone and wanted people to mix, which worked so well. Our wedding cake was made by our friend which meant so much on the day.

The plan for the reception was again relaxed. But huge emphasis again on music. We loved the music, the DJ was fabulous. As aforementioned, we purposely mixed every table so people got to know each other especially as our families hadn’t met prior to our wedding day. We wanted everyone, including people we hired for our wedding day to be/feel a part of it and feel comfortable. I think we achieved that. (Nu Bride: Wonderful!)

Our first dance was Oasis, Talk tonight. It summed up how we felt about each other. We’re massive fans of course

We had so many funny moments on our wedding day and I loved the fact that my great nephew was teaching Gary’s uncle Warren how to floss!

Challenges and Triumphs

Table planning and choosing music was challenging, but all the hard work turned into a triumph

Top Tip for other couples

Accept the things you can’t change, embrace the day and the planning.

The wedding car, with the groom and best men were involved in an accident on the way to the venue. No one was hurt, but it really puts it into perspective.

Don’t stress about the little things, be grateful for everything and everyone. Do it how you want it. Choose florists, photographers etc because you like their work and allow them to do what they do best.

Have fun, take time to enjoy the day, don’t worry about people enjoying themselves, they make their own fun!

Absolutely priceless advice Georgie, thank you to you and Gary for sharing your beautiful day with Nu Bride.
