“You can never go wrong if you marry a beautiful mind and soul”
Meet the delightful Beatrice of Kenyan heritage and Gurhan of Turkish heritage who celebrated their love and blended their two cultures together in Dubai last December. They met at work and in Beatrice’s own words, their chemistry was like the heat from a thousand fires! Nu Bride: Oh my, this wedding is HOT!
After a traditional wedding in Beatrice’s native Kenya, they hosted a glamorous second wedding in Dubai for their very international guest list, in timeless shades of white, champagne, and blush. Beatrice stunned in a showstopping Pronovias number, while Gurhan was her dapper counterpart in a classic tuxedo. It was all – as their first dance song expressed it – “perfect”.
From the classic timeless white decor to the she sunset ceremony, the impeccable middle Eastern backdrop, the style, oh my goodness the impeccable style. From the endless international entertainment and exquisite finishing touches – Beatrice and Gurhan know how to celebrate love in style.
As soon as I saw their wedding film from the incredibly talented Denee Motion Films & Stills I knew you would utterly adore this. Their film captures the essence of the day beautifully. Enough from me, enjoy the video from Denee Motion Films and stunning images from Bernie & Bindi of a day sparkling with glamour and love!
Gurhan asked me to pick me up one morning for an early sunrise breakfast. His words were: “Askim, (Askim means “my love” in Turkish.) the sky is so clear nowadays, why don’t we have breakfast one of these days and enjoy the sunrise?” On that very day, he picked me up in a chauffeured land cruiser, stating that we would be having breakfast in the desert. I had no idea what he had planned. At around 6.30am, caught by surprise in a hot air balloon up in the sky, surrounded by the view of Oman mountains and a beautiful sunrise is where I said “YES” to the love of my life!
Nu Bride: Well Gurhan you have just totally raised the bar with proposals on Nu Bride!
You can never go wrong if you marry a beautiful mind and soul. Gurhan is a very handsome man! But that was just the icing on top – he is the whole package! We are together because we bring out the best version of each other.
Our wedding was a white, cosmopolitan affair. Both my husband and I have friends and family from all around the globe, so we chose the theme taking our guests’ styles into account. We even had international cuisines and entertainment throughout our wedding day.
We had no trouble finding inspiration, since we both had in mind what we wished to have on our special day, and were lucky to have an expat specialist wedding planner, Fabulous Day Weddings & Events who managed to incorporate both our themes.
Denee Motion Films & Stills did our cinematography and well, they did an awesome job! We chose Bernie & Bindi as our photographers, and I would highly recommend them
Expat specialists Fabulous Day Weddings & Events was our wedding planner, and I would highly recommend them.
We’d also like to give out to Design by Louma who did a great job with our invitations,
Searching for my wedding dress was a long project (Nu Bride: Love how you refer to it as a project!) and a seemingly endless search, but when I saw my dress on a runway in New York at the Atelier Pronovias 2018 Collection fashion show, I knew this was it! Risca is the name of the gown and it is made purely of crystals. We flew to Spain a couple of times to get the final version of my gown. (Nu Bride: Impeccable choice)
I am always jealous of my husband’s decisiveness when it comes to what he wants to wear! We got his tuxedo from Milimetric Bespoke. Once again, we made several trips to Turkey to make sure he looked glam! (Nu Bride -adore a stylish groom!)
For our wedding ceremony, we wanted a garden ceremony where we would exchange our vows at sunset with a beach view. The helipad at the Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah was absolute magic!
As part of the ceremony, we decided to exchange our promises with sands from all the seven emirates. (Nu Bride: This is a beautiful idea!)
We both love orchids, so played with champagne and blush shades to accessorise the white wedding theme we were planning.
Some of our favourite moments from the day were musical, including the grand entrance to the reception – it was phenomenal! For our cake cutting, we had my husband’s fave song: ‘African Queen’ by 2Face, and our first dance was to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’… the song says it all! During the reception, it was so fun to see our guests dancing to music that was different from that of their own cultures!
Challenges and Triumphs
We had another wedding a week earlier in Kenya, so everything we did was done twice!
Top tip for other couples
Planning a wedding should be fun! It’s your first task as a couple! Take it easy and enjoy every bit of it. You will spend months planning for just that one special day, so make sure you pick up the best of everything for it!
