I tell you something, being styled by celeb stylist and designer Charlie Brear is an absolute dream! No one knows how to transform an outfit with […]
I’ve always been an advocate for positive wellbeing, since my former pro dancing days, so I was delighted to be invited to wellness revolution, YogaFit Retreats.
I worked in mental wellbeing for just under a decade and still work with an exclusive number of clients as a wellbeing mentor and often work with people who are extremely burnt out, stressed, anxious, or experiencing more serious vulnerability. The reoccurring theme invariably is low self worth and in turn, not taking care of ourselves whilst trying to navigate relationships, work, study, marriage, bereavements, life and everything that is thrown at us. In the pursuit of perfection, sometimes we forget that without our health, we’re no good to man nor beast.
YogaFit Retreats provide us with the opportunity to remember this, to take great care of ourselves, no guilt attached, with the added bonus of the beautiful backdrop of the mountains in Ibiza for company.
Founded by husband and wife duo Lindsay and Ivor (who are also expert teachers in their field) along with Lindsay’s’ delightful brother Ken (responsible for these fab images) and his wife Antonia. A vibrant family run business set up to help others with their wellness and pursuit of happiness in mind and they are doing it with such elegance and compassion in bucket loads.
with over 400 people passing through the week, it’s not as intimate as you might expect for a retreat, but nevertheless, the variety of classes, the opportunity to come and go as you please and size of the venue mean, that if you explore, there are little hidden wonders and moments of peace you can steal away from busy areas. Accommodation was clean, comfortable and basic, with a selection of three healthy (or indulgent depending on your mood!) food-station meals a day, suitable for all diets including a healthy dose of vegan options.
Whilst YogaFit Retreats don’t market themselves as a pre-wedding celebration destination. I saw it as exactly that and more. A novel idea for savvy girls and guys who fancy something different from the fun and frolics of a traditional binge drinking stag, hen or “sten” that you might expect in Ibiza! From 2 to 20 of you, it provides a brilliant wellbeing focused alternative, a chance to bond with your nearest and dearest, a chance for some incredible self-development and self-reflection and a moment to prepare in both body and mind for the momentous journey to come.
It provided an unexpected opportunity to break down fears and build confidence. It didn’t matter if you couldn’t do the splits, or were in your 20’s or 70’s. It didn’t matter if you were a professional yogi, athlete, dancer or a complete novice. There was something for everyone and more importantly everyone was welcome and encouraged to do as little or as much as their own personal journeys and bodies would allow, whilst not taking themselves too seriously and having a whole lot of fun along the way.
Don’t let the name fool you, it’s not all about Yoga. With over 150 classes to choose from I was in my element (I slightly overdid it on my first day ambitiously squeezing in 6 classes – My hamstrings didn’t thank me for it!) The variety of fitness and wellness classes, workshops, therapists, coupled with an excellent pick of teachers at the top of their field, complemented the eclectic mix of participants from all walks of life taking part; all sharing one common goal – putting themselves at the top of that to do list.
It was great to hear some of the personal experiences of what led some of the teachers to have complete life changes in pursuit of happiness, work life balance or just simply helping others feel damn good about themselves. Former professional dancer and extremely inspiring personal trainer and now body builder Tsuki (oh yes) was a delight to meet and we were exchanging notes on our former dancing days and some of my other personal favourites of mine were sunrise yoga with wonderful Dylan Ayaloo, Chi Fit with Arun and Lindsay Jay (from YogaFit Retreats), Pilates with one of the most popular teachers I’ve met, Carroll Locke and Fascia Release with the brilliant Lydia Campbell.
