2016 Nu Bride Favourites: Merry Christmas and a Scrumptious 2017

Does anyone know where 2016 went? Wow. This year has utterly flown by.

I absolutely love this time of year. As ever, I delight in the opportunity to spend quality with friends and family over the Christmas break and take a moment to reflect on the year. The learnings, the loss, the gains, the joys, the sorrow and the celebrations.

I won’t lie. 2016 has been a challenging one personally. And that’s before I even mention Brexit and Trump!

In all seriousness it’s been bitter-sweet, with many personal challenges including losing loved ones prematurely to cancer, to becoming an Aunty for the first time. Like Ying and Yang where there is sadness there is always great joy, but 2016 has really shed light on what is important. It has taught me a lot about resilience, tolerance, unconditional love and it has certainly made me think more deeply about ‘purpose’. The reason why each and every one of us has been placed on this earth…

Nu Bride has seen some delicious collaborations and opportunities this year. One of which being invited to Vogue House, home to Condé Nast UK, to meet with the team at Brides Magazine, not once but twice! I’ll share more about this as soon as I am able.

I’ve really enjoyed working with some of my industry friends on Bags of Kindness over Christmas, raised over £1140 and donated over 300 bags to homeless shelters across the UK, I’ll be delivering my portion of collections (over 30) this week.

Other highlights that spring to mind include, having my first article discussing a challenging topic on race and perception in the wedding industry published in Huffington Post was nerve-wracking and wonderful in equal measure. Styling an editorial shoot for Rock n Roll Bride Magazine and writing for Catalyst Wedding Magazine, along with being chosen to share some beautiful real weddings, welcoming some very talented 2016 Nu Bride Ambassadors on board and of course, receiving another award at The Wedding Blog Awards!

Aside from Nu Brides fresh new sassy logo. There will be a lot of exciting steps forward in 2017. Including dedicating more time to Nu Bride, which was a decision I did not take lightly. But with the support of Mr Nu Bride, friends and family, lots of pros and cons lists I made the decision to take a leap of faith into full-time self-employment (eek) so you will start to see the fruits of some of my labour into the New Year.

I am also conducting a very large and important survey to measure the eclectic couples who marry in the UK and to assess if they feel adequately served by the UK wedding industry. So if you haven’t already completed it, I would love your honest feedback. PLUS you get a change to be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury experience day for 2 with Truly Experiences! Please also share it with friends and family.

In these next couple of weeks I hope you get the opportunity to reflect and count the many blessings you have, rest, laugh, remember and cherish time with those who matter most.

SO hard to pick, but here’s just a few of my highlights:

Reading about all of your wonderful & well-deserved accomplishments this year makes my heart swell with pride and joy for you. Hearing that you have decided to commit to full-time self employment is wonderful as I believe that hard work meets opportunity and there are no coincidences. Plus more amazing diverse women with strong voices need to RUN, businesses. Thank you for inspiring us all with your commitment to a very important mission: capturing the wonderful diversity of love and embracing it. Wishing you and your husband all the best in the new year, may it be filled with continued success, abundance, good health, joy, and love. Enjoy Christmas with your family. I have had a full and busy work week but it has been so hard to concentrate because I am so excited to sit in front of the fire with my husband and cuddle with a cup of hot cocoa and soak up every minute of holiday joy. So much to be thankful for. I look forward to continuing to see you shine in 2017. Take Care -Heather

Firstly, a big thank you for including me in your round up of favourites from this year. Much love ❤️ But more importantly, I hear every word you say about 2016 being bitter-sweet. It’s been the toughest year of my life without exaggeration, but it’s given me a lot to be grateful for too – first and foremost the realisation that there are some people in every area of our life that we can truly depend on. Sending you a hug my dear, and I hope in 2017 we’ll see more of each other! xxx
