A little something to take your breath away!
Say hello to the incredible stunning College sweethearts Jasmine and Marquette married last year in beautiful Puerto Rico and decided to celebrate their first wedding anniversary with a trip to the Santorini with wonderful photographer and Nu Bride family member; Nikos Gogas in tow.

How you met?
Marquette and I met during college freshman orientation in Atlanta, Georgia. I went to a historically black women’s college, Spelman College, and he went to a historically black men’s college, Morehouse College. We became friends, but had instant chemistry the day we met, and became close friends during College. We made our relationship “official” during our senior year in college.
Your Proposal story?
Marquette proposed in San Francisco, shortly after our three-year anniversary. We were in a long-distance relationship at the time and he was visiting after Christmas. He told me he was taking me on a “special anniversary date” (I was completely oblivious!) and he took me to a place overlooking the Pacific Ocean that I had mentioned I wanted to visit a few weeks prior.
We were taking a selfie in front of the beautiful backdrop when a stranger approached us and asked if we wanted him to take the photo for us. We said yes! He then told us he was a professional photographer and he needed models for a silhouette photo, and we happily agreed to participate. He assured us that our faces wouldn’t be shown and that he would share the photos with us online, and I was excited about the idea of getting some free professional photos!
While we were being photographed, Marquette got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! (Nu Bride: Absolutely brilliant!)
At first I thought he was just joking – (Nu Bride: of course!) he always does silly romantic things – but once he pulled out the ring, I knew he was serious. I said yes! After I got over the initial shock, I slowly began to realise that he had planned the whole thing and the photographer was not just a random stranger.
I was very surprised and incredibly emotional. We celebrated by attending the Nutcracker, a ballet that Marquette took me to see in Atlanta the night he asked me to be his girlfriend, and then had a small celebration with my family.
The day after he proposed, we travelled to Thailand to celebrate and bring in 2014 together! (Nu Bride: Just perfect!)
Favourite things about each other?
Jazmyn: My favourite thing about Marquette is how affectionate he is. He’s always showing me so much love and constantly smothering me in kisses. It makes me feel so special. I also love how I can be totally weird with him and he’s weird right back with me.
Marquette: My favourite thing about Jazmyn is that she is an extremely thoughtful and selfless individual. She never hesitates to go above and beyond for the people she loves. Also, I find it adorable how much she loves kittens & puppies.
Marriage One Year On – What have you both learnt?
Overall, marriage hasn’t been that different from when we were engaged. Despite that fact, we’ve definitely had some challenges that I never would have expected.
We’ve learned that no matter what trials we encounter, whether it’s unanticipated expenses, family issues, or work struggles, we have to be vulnerable with each other and lean on each other for support.
I didn’t think it was possible, but we’ve grown much closer in the past year, and that makes us stronger. (Nu Bride: Perfect)
If you knew then what you do now, what would you have done differently on your wedding day?
We had a destination wedding and had very little help planning.
I had only been to one wedding and had never been a part of one, so I really had no idea what I was doing. I would have done quite a few things differently in hindsight. I was so focused on not trying to be a “bridezilla” that I was more passive of a person than I normally am and I wish that I had been a little more assertive when expressing our desires.
We also should’ve been stricter with the guest list because it got really out of control. Overall, everyone really enjoyed themselves and we had a great time (and most importantly, got married!), but not everything went how we wanted it to.
Brides and grooms: be picky and be assertive so you get what you want and don’t have any regrets! (Nu Bride: Fabulous advice ! And Happy Anniversary to you both, enjoy these wonderful next few chapters ahead!)
