Tropical Wedding Inspiration in London |Sanshine Photography

Let’s start the week off with a tropical bang!

This rather delightful concept to brilliantly bring the sunshine inside on your wedding day, is simply gorgeous!

I am so lucky to receive shoots inspired by and specifically curated for Nu Bride from talented colleagues in the industry. Keen to do their bit to inspire and acknowledge couples of various ethnic backgrounds and to add a little dash of inclusive diversity into the mainstream industry.

So when fine art photographer San of Sanshine Photography said she had a little present for me, I knew I would love it, long before I received the images.

I asked San why she was inspired to do this shoot;

I’ve always felt that the wedding industry should be more inclusive. One of my many conversations with Nova made me realise how much I wanted that to happen (and if you want something done, do it yourself!). To me, it was important that this shoot would be all about celebrating colour, in every sense of the word, about freedom of self-expression and about going bold and being yourself and proudly different, something I feel Nu Bride always inspires people to do. Put together by talented Stylist Charlotte Munro , this shoot really is a tropical delight and a brilliant way to add some much-needed sunshine if you are marrying in the UK, by taking advantage of natural light and cleverly bringing the outside in. Genius!

From the delicious colourful palette, to the fashion choices, the pineapples and the infectious smiles. I adore this and I defy you not to smile. Such a beautifully executed and uplifting shoot.

Tell us more Charlotte….

Many couples love the concept of an outdoor wedding but can feel discouraged by the grey British weather. In their quest for a colourful light-filled wedding, they often realise that destination weddings, a logical and popular solution when wanting that outdoor feel, can be incredibly difficult to organise and at times, being limiting for the couple, resulting in significantly cutting their guest list.

Sanshine and I wanted to create a shoot that is aimed at bringing the destination wedding to the UK, and themed around a modern, chic tropical ideas transported into an otherwise urban setting. Charlotte Munro

With a colour scheme of bright pinks, oranges, yellow and lime against a contemporary white backdrop at an industrial chic venue with large windows, this is the perfect inspiration for a tropical wedding in the heart of London!

We had a wonderful team on board to help my vision come to life. Creating the beautiful backdrop and columns of amazing flowers was the task of Susie at Tissue Blossoms, who makes fantastic floral installations from paper. From birds of paradise to giant orchids, we had every kind of flower imaginable!

From Susie, the paper flower designer:

I turned to nature for inspiration. Birds of paradise, hibiscus, dahlias, lizianthus, passion flowers, orchids, heliconia, giant jasmin, gerbera and roses… So many ideas! I started a 6 week project of individually hand-cutting and crafting these beautiful unique works of art. Designing with paper creates infinite possibilities where our cold British nature can’t. A stylist’s dream is to have no worries about availability, longevity, size, colour, shape of flowers or allergies that the wedding guests might have, and this is where my flower creations out of paper truly shine. It was a privilege working on this project and seeing the flowers of my imagination come to a reality, knowing they make a lasting artful keepsake as well as a beautiful backdrop for any couple!

The beautiful cake was designed by Clare at the Little Bear Cakery, who created a 3-tiered masterpiece, matching the beautiful blooms to the theme perfectly.

From Clare, the cake maker:

For the cake I wanted the sugar flowers to speak for themselves and to show that you can have fun with your theme! Keeping the icing plain white and finished with a simple silk ribbon, I went big and bold with the handcrafted sugar flowers. I love experimenting with flowers and colours outside the wedding norm. I created pink hibiscus, orange gardenia, pale pink bauhinia and yellow frangipani with a few wafer paper gold leaves to match the overall tropical theme!

Creating a bright, light, summery feel wedding indoors is possible with careful planning. Firstly, opt for a wedding venue with large windows that let in as much light as possible and white walls that will naturally reflect light to create a pleasant a setting for your nuptials. Secondly, book a photographer who specialises in natural and ambient light photography such as the wonderful Sanshine Photography

A colour scheme using brights, pinks yellows and lime green against a clean white background keeps it fresh and modern, I also added gold accents in the brides jewellery and the table decor to keep the colour scheme warm against the white.

Sunglasses make a fun & functional table favour. The place names are made from laser cut mdf and then painted in any colour you choose. I opted for neon orange and pink acrylic paint, as it gives good coverage and dries quickly!

I used foliage garlands as a table runner, and Susie of Tissue Blossom’s beautiful paper flowers were the perfect centre piece. Tropical flowers can sometimes be hard to source in the UK but the beauty of paper means any flower you choose is readily available and can even be created in colours you wouldn’t find naturally.

Our bride had a dress change into something perfect for dancing the night away. Nobody says you have to wear ivory on your wedding day, and certainly not for the evening! We chose this for its gorgeous colour, I love how the white flowers and gold jewellery pop against the coral of the dress.

We hope you enjoy this colourful and bold shoot and feel inspired to experiment with your wedding décor and, with the help of incredibly talented wedding suppliers, create a truly unforgettable and unique event that will transport your guests to your very own personal paradise!
