Choosing The Perfect Honeymoon Destination with Sandals

My Caribbean genes are crying out for some sunshine and I think I need a bit of a distraction from this incessant wind and rain, with some delicious sunshine honeymoon inspiration.
On top of planning a wedding, preparing for your honeymoon can sometimes take a bit of back seat. There are many elements to consider to help you choose the right honeymoon destination and the right vibe for you and your beloved. I’ve asked luxury honeymoon specialists and brand new, Nu Bride Ambassadors; Sandals, to enlighten you with some brilliant tips to help you choose, budget and prepare for your honeymoon.
Over to Kerri-Anne; Weddings Manager at Sandals.
1. How long can you go for
You want to have plenty of time to relax and enjoy your honeymoon, so make sure that you factor in flight time when considering holiday destination. If you’ve only got a week, places as far-flung as Australia or Asia probably aren’t an ideal choice!
2. Find the best option for you
It goes without saying, every couple has different interests and so there’s no ‘one size fits all’ solution when creating the perfect honeymoon. Make sure that the experience is tailored to your particular interests and needs, rather than just picking an idyllic destination.
3. List & compare top 5 destinations
Deciding where to go can be somewhat overwhelming, so a good solution is for you and your partner to write a list of your top five honeymoon destinations and then compare.
See if there are any places that you have both listed, and if not, look at the kind of experience that you have chosen and work around that. For example, relaxing or adventurous road trip, bustling city or beach.
4. Shop around
Ensure that you look around for the best honeymoon packages, which often include gifts or upgrades.
Always make sure your chosen hotel is aware that it is your honeymoon, so that they are sure to make the experience extra special for you. At Sandals we provide all honeymoon couples with a bottle of chilled sparkling wine in the room upon arrival, a turn-down service with flower petals on the bed on their first night, and breakfast in bed served on a morning of their choice.
5. Book early
Try to book as early as possible in order to avoid availability issues, or paying over the odds for your preferred dates.
6. Budget
Your wedding will have been an expensive time for you, and so it is a good idea to choose a honeymoon option which allows you to budget easily. All-inclusive resorts are a great option as everything is paid for in advance. Many all-inclusive resorts, including Sandals will also offer airport transfers, use of watersports equipment and a variety of activities without additional cost, fees that can add up at a regular hotel or resort.
7. It’s all about the accommodation…
For your honeymoon you want to be able to retreat to a suite with a real ‘wow factor’.
At Sandals we recognise that having a breath-taking suite is hugely important for honeymooners, which is why we have worked hard to create suites so exotic and romantic that we’ve named them “Love Nests”! These secluded escapes are set apart from the main resort for the ideal romantic rendezvous and each includes a personal Butler, trained by the Guild of Professional English Butlers for the ultimate in personal pampering.
8. Relax!
You will probably be a bit exhausted after your wedding and so your honeymoon is a great opportunity to relax and recuperate, and spend some quality time together. If you are looking to chill out, all-inclusive resorts can be wonderful places to indulge, without having to worry about transportation or where you will get your next meals.
