Sometimes the smallest of things can inspire the greatest of gestures.
A little loving plea…..If you are a bride-to-be or a recently joined #teammarried , I would love it if you could consider sharing elements of your gorgeous day so that Nu Bride readers can continue to be represented and inspired. Without your images, the barriers to create a much more inclusive wedding industry featuring women (and men) who look like you will remain unchanged.
This message written on Nu Bride in 2014 really resonated with photographer; Cecelina Photography. Cecelina recognised the wedding industry could be doing more to represent a larger variety of diverse couples visually, which prompted Cecelina to get in touch with me and inspired her to come up this shoot.
What truly is special with weddings are all the different people, families, cultures and emotions coming together in a day full of beauty.
As a wedding photographer based in diverse and equal cities as London and Stockholm, I feel a responsibility to be at the forefront for creating diversity in the wedding photography industry. Love is for everyone and what people in love see in the media should reflect that. This is why it was incredibly important and so exciting to put together this inspirational bridal shoot with Nu Bride – a woman who has taken upon herself to encourage and celebrate diversity.”
“With the fine art wedding photography feel for this shoot I wanted to create airy and natural photographs full of style to resonate with a modern couple who care about detail and quality. Cecelina Photography
So the seed was sown, as soon as I met Cecelina I was touched by her personal dedication to take action as a photographer to contribute to showcasing quality work, to help make the mainstream wedding industry more visually inclusive and appealing to more couples of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
After meeting with Cecelina, I knew we needed a great planner on board to help take the idea forward and knew I wanted the brilliantly creative London wedding planner; Always Andri to create something magical for us. With her background in stage and theatre design and her shared ethos, I knew she would be the perfect person to create something beautiful.
Being London-based I am lucky enough to work with a lot of multicultural couples, but you don’t always see this reflected in shoots, especially fine art ones. I feel it is important to show that whatever your culture or race, you can still have a beautiful look for your wedding if you want to. Andri Benson, Always Andri
Andri chose the stunning and exclusive 19th century historic building Bignor Park as our backdrop peacefully tucked away in South Downs, West Sussex.
Bignor Park truly had me at hello with their grand pink majestic building, surrounded by delicious freshly manicured lawns and 1200 acres of land! Dreamy!
There were so many nuggets to be inspired by, we were spoilt for choice, as Bignor Park beautifully lends itself to both the modern and traditional couple.
For this look, we chose to use the stunning Temple to create the backdrop for an intimate wedding ceremony, followed by an elegant portrait session accompanied by a romantic picnic alongside the grounds very own calming zen pond.
What I love about Bignor Park, (licensed for indoor and outdoor ceremonies), is that no two weddings are the same. There are no packages, no one size fits all. They encourage couples to make their own mark on the venue, which is exclusively theirs for the whole day with attention to detail and customer service at the forefront.
The shoot inspired one of the friendliest and hardworking teams I have had the pleasure to be around. The passionate and dedicated team was a delight to work and create with.
For this shoot I felt it was important to show your typical wedding, but with a more diverse couple, so people see themselves in other settings.
When you have natures backdrop, such a beautiful setting and rolling landscape, I wanted to keep it simple and make it about the setting and little details to make the couple shine. Andri, Always Andri
Joined by mother and daughter dream team Brides and Beauty Hayley King on hair and Joyce Connor on make-up working fluidly to beautify our ridiculously gorgeous models; Devante and Syanne. (My gosh they look so good together!)
Blue Sky Flowers on putting together our gorgeous blooms which played an integral part to keeping in with the theme and complementing the beautiful natural backdrop of the grounds.
I wanted to create something that was soft, dreamy and delicate, so I incorporated clean white heavenly scented Peonies (Nu Bride: they were seriously heavenly), paired with big cloudy Hydrangea, white Scabious, Larkspur and Queen Anne’s Lace, poppy heads and Passion Flower foliage. Liz, Blue Sky Flowers
The calm and creative duo Greg and Justina HD Moments spent the day capturing our work in gorgeous cinematography.
Louise Bjorling assisting Cecelina on photography, took all of these great behind the scenes shots of us all in action.
We chose chic modern fashion choices for our gorgeous models. Handsome Devante kitted out in a soft grey stylish tailored suit, designed by Indivisual by Keye with a splash of pink accessories. We purposefully wanted to create a look for the style conscious groom, giving any bride a run for her money! Stunning Syanne is wearing soft, romantic and dreamy tutu skirt and off-the-shoulder silk separates, with a simple silver metallic belt to add texture break up the colour adding a modern touch, by designer Cortana from Morgan Davies.
We were spoilt with fantastic handmade stationery from talented designer which Andri and I met at Etsy wedding fair earlier in the year; Curious Me Designs. Plus we had some delightful posh picnic treats from one of the preferred caterers at Bignor Park; Caroline Lindsay of The Naked Food Company. Oh my gosh, her homemade quiches and bread was absolutely incredible. One of the perks of doing a shoot – you get to eat and drink all the goodness afterwards!
Hard work and shared laughter was definitely the order of the day, discussing, Barbados, taxidermy and banana’s !
Much like planning a wedding day, planning a shoot is not easy, or glamorous. You are on your feet all day, standing on chairs, humping furniture, running around, moving benches, climbing up ladders, carrying benches. You name it, Andri and her hands-free ear piece was a step ahead and elegantly in action.
As well as clambering over chairs, I was there bothering people with interviews for some upcoming vlog episodes, so keep an eye out for those. But for now, feast your eyes on the beauty that is Bignor Park.
Thank you so much Cecelina for being inspired to encourage a more visually inclusive industry, to Louise at Bignor Park for being such an elegant and wonderful host and to Andri and the brilliant team for putting such stunning inspiration together so effortlessly and exclusively for Nu Bride readers.
