Hello my love!
I have a gorgeous wedding that absolutely celebrates family to share with you today!
This is what happens when two beautiful people fall in love and when two beautiful worlds and cultures collide.
The stunning wedding of handsome Dutchman; Willem and beautiful bride Sophie of English, Afro-Caribbean heritage, is an absolute dream, plus Sophie and Willem just ooze style effortlessly (as do their wedding party) !
Make sure you know that everything you’re including in your wedding day, is because it’s a reflection of what you want and not because of pressure from anyone else
I absolutely adore how much they included friends and family to make their day that extra bit special. Their day is beautifully filled with eloquent, symbolic, personal touches. From a tree planting ceremony, a family cake baking competition, to handmade stationery and talented siblings.
Sophie’s father looks like a true gentlemen and reduced me to tears with the sheer honesty captured in some of the images taken with Sophie. Reinforcing how beautiful that sacred moment between father and daughter can be.
Let these incredible images do the talking. Beautiful.
We chose to have a personal wedding day, it was relaxed and a lot of our family were involved because that’s important to us. So for instance, Sophie’s bridesmaids were her sister and my two sisters and Willem’s best man & groomsmen were made up of my brother and mates from my high-school and Uni.
Both of our mum’s performed readings and my parents both sang in the Church service in a special choir performance. The night also ended with Sophie sister’s band heading things up on the dance floor.
Nu Bride: Heavenly!
We decided to hold a baking competition with friends and family, for our wedding cake and sweet table!
The biggest poignant moment was Sophie’s Dad doing a cultural tree planting ceremony during his speech where he planted a tree and members of the family had to add soil it’s representative of them as a family sowing into our marriage.
Our fast dance was to Only You (special version) by The Platters
Nu Bride: Gorgeous!
Our one bit of advice to couples planning their wedding, would be make sure you know that everything you’re including in your day (from dress, to location, to venue) is because it’s a reflection of what you want and not because of pressure from anyone else.
Also a budget and a to-do list are very, very handy.
Finally make a list of the things that are most important to you and allocate your budget accordingly. It’s so easy to end up spending on things that although are great aren’t as vital as having a great venue or a fantastic photographer (like we did! : ) as those things can actually enhance both the day and the memories where as what hotel you got ready at or what car you arrived in might not…”
Absolutely fantastic tips Sophie and Willem!
Stunning! Thank you so much Willem and Sophie for sharing your incredible day with us. Wishing you a wonderful 1st anniversary next month!
