I’ve discovered another scorcher of a designer for you: world-renowned bridal and evening-wear designer; Galia Lahav of Galia Lahav Haute Couture.
Russian born Galia Lahav has been designing for over 30 years and was born into a family of seamtresses.
The Galia Lahav 2015 collection Moonstruck (evening-wear) and La Dolce Vita (Bridal) oozes gorgeous elegant, yet sexy designs with luxurious embellishments. All of Galia Lahav dresses are made in Tel Aviv and cater for the independent and glamorous bride. It is no surprise that Galia Lahav frequently dress high-profile celebrities and aristocrat with their statement designs.
Take a look at some of the behind the scenes catwalk action at New York bridal market captured perfectly by the very talented and also a great friend; Noir Tribe, as soon as I saw this video I knew I wanted to share this with you! Just look at the beading, lace, embellishments and attention to detail on these designs! The video brings them to life beautifully and a huge thumbs up from Nu Bride for beautiful diversity.
I grabbed a few moments with Galia to give you an insight into her world and to introduce you to both Galia and Sharon Levers’ impeccable designs, coupled with a selection of behind the scenes images from Bridal Fashion Week.
With over 30 years in the industry, how do you keep your designs fresh and remain inspired?
It is very natural. As things in life constantly are changing they inspire my designs to keep evolving. What inspires me most is music and travels.
For the bride who is a little unsure, how do you describe Haute Couture ?
Haute Couture gowns at Galia Lahav are gowns that are made to measure. When you order a gown from us, we measure your height, bust, waist, etc and make the gown exactly for you. We customise it to your likings so that it is your dream dress. Everything is hand-made and hand-sewn of the highest quality fabrics and embellishments.
As an internationally acclaimed designer, is it important for you to market your dresses in a way that reaches a culturally, ethnic diverse and international audience? How do you achieve this ?
I have a large international audience mixed with many different cultures, each with their own unique fashion trends.
I focus on reaching out to women who enjoy and appreciate quality and diversity. By marketing to women who are seeking something different and glamorous for their special day.
MOON STRUCK EVENING
For the Spring 2015 season, luxury fashion house Galia Lahav introduces an evening collection Moon Struck, a prism of shimmery black shades and textured sheer fabrics that come together to represent a midsummer night’s dream.
LA DOLCE VITA BRIDAL
The La Dolce Vita Bridal collection evokes themes from a love story which take place on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. The collection incorporates intricate iridescent beadwork infused with vintage sun-kissed lace – creating a unique mix of old world romance and modern day silhouettes.
I adore your sexy, yet elegant designs and absolutely love a gorgeous back on a wedding dress! What’s important to you about creating wedding dresses with a statement back?
It’s important for me to exude the feminine physic and to make a bride feel confident by making her feel sexy. I have a vision of the way I want my brides to look and I’m happy to know that they feel the same.
Talk us through the Galia Lahav Haute Couture process?
It starts with an idea and then it could be a piece of fabric or a sketch, without even thinking of the material and then it’s knowing how to execute that idea.
It’s a process that involves a lot of professionals, from the materials to the designs, to the sewing, to the finishing touches. We do everything the old-fashioned way, nothing is computerised and everything is very personal with us.
What’s your favourite process of designing a wedding dress?
Seeing the dresses come to life and watching the reaction of my brides when they wear their gowns for the first time.
What one tip can you give to help my gorgeous Nu Bride readers find their dream dress?
Listen to yourself and stay true to your vision.
It is very common that family members and friends get involved in this process and the bride loses touch of her individual taste.
Perfect tip Galia. Thank you so much for giving us a snippet into your wonderful world and your beautiful designs.
