Hello my beauties,
Now I’ve never been one to celebrate Valentines Day, but this year I received a rather exciting invite from a rather fabulous man (other than my husband!) that I simply could not pass up.
Mark Niemierko, premier event and wedding planner hosted an intimate brunch for the UK’s leading wedding bloggers on Valentine’s Day morning.
The St Valentine’s brunch reception was held at Belgraves, A Thompson Hotel in Belgravia, London. The hotel – the first transatlantic launch from the trendy Thompson Hotel group – blends traditional British hospitality with an American bohemian attitude so fitted the bill for this Niemierko event perfectly. The hotel’s bold interiors, created by Tara Bernerd, house 85 rooms and suites, a mezzanine bar and restaurant, whilst its stylish outdoor terrace and eclectic lounge make it a favourite with guests and London’s glitterati alike. “An intimate brunch for the UK’s leading wedding bloggers” What an accolade and an honour to be recognised as a leading UK wedding blogger. Now I would just like to highlight that these are Marks’ words and not mine! As you can imagine, I was thrilled and humbled to be one of the bloggers invited!
Now I am not one for networking, it has never come naturally or felt easy to me, in fact it’s one of my pet hates along with my disdain for long distance running. Nevertheless, no pain no gain my beauties. With my disdain to one side and a big deep breath, I trotted off to Knightsbridge. Arriving at the very discreet, trendy, urban and intimate Belgraves Hotel met with a fusion of modern slick furnishings with contrasting exposed brick walls. Just my kind of place!
Arriving on my own to a room that felt like an inferno and seemed to be full to the brim with people who already seemed to know each other, the familiar networking palpitations had already begun….it was either make or break, either stand there like a loaner or start schmoozing! And breathe…..
It wasn’t long before I was introduced to Mark who was an absolute delight and a real ball of energy. Hard to believe that we are of the same age with all that he has accomplished! For those of you who don’t know or haven’t yet guessed, Mark is an elite wedding planner, one of, if not ‘the’ top wedding planner in the UK. For those of you who routinely watch the wedding channel, think of him as the David Tutera of the UK and you’re not far off!
Even first thing in the morning Mark’s energy is infectious and it didn’t take me too long to stop feeling like a big bag of nerves and self-conscious and enjoy the company I was in.
Wedding Bloggers were greeted by a trio of rather chiseled and charming waiters (they certainly helped with the nerves!) serving champagne and Bloody Marys (for some reason I had momentarily forgotten that tomato was indeed the main ingredient in this drink and it came as a bit of a shock shall we say, at that time of the morning!), delicious canapés including eggs benedict, pancakes and mini bacon breakfast rolls.
Mark escorted a handful of wedding bloggers and I up to one of the studio suites to give us a snippet of what type of treatment one of his brides could expect on the eve of their wedding.
When we entered, we were greeted by an intimate and plush suite, adorned with a divine cow-hide rug and modern furnishings, with stunning views across London. We were then greeted by 2 stunningly stunning Oscar De La Renta wedding dresses (did you know the first Oscar De La Renta London Boutique on Mount Street has just opened? Get down there brides!) Let me tell you, it took every being in my body to restrain myself from whipping my clothes off right there and then and trying on the gowns lol!. They were both simply beautiful and not to mention the matching Oscar De La Renta shoes available in every colour imaginable!
The suite was also accented with a beautiful bouquet for the bride, by Rob Van Helden, with an intricate detailed Oscar De La Renta elegant veil and perfume and ‘something blue’ Larinar nail polish to finish off the brides look. There were also a wonderful bundle of girly DVD’s, champagne and strawberries to keep brides relaxed and excited the eve before their wedding day.
When the nerves subsided, it was lovely to meet so many people in one room who although all from different journeys and with different trajectories, still shared the same love and enthusiasm for weddings.
Aside from meeting Mark of course, a highlight for me was meeting Elizabeth of Bridal Musings, Vicki of Pocketful of Dreams, Sonia of Want that Wedding, Kate of brand new blog, You Had Me at Hello and Kat of Rock n Roll Bride. The former and latter were great sources of inspiration for my own personal wedding planning journey, so it was a true delight to meet them both in person and it was especially lovely to hear that Elizabeth and I share some of the same ethos! Kat, being a bit of a legend in the blogging world having created the very first wedding blog in the UK, was a real treat to meet. All of the bloggers I had the pleasure of meeting were incredibly welcoming and genuinely seemed keen to hear about other bloggers and their journeys and sharing tips and advice (and gripes!) and I really look forward to forging new relationships with them.
Before I left, I made sure I dashed into Mark’s custom-made photo-booth by Booth Nation for some silliness and of course made sure I devoured a deliciously moist chocolate fudge cupcake made by the talented May Clee-Cadman of Maisie Fantaisie
After all the excitement as I got ready to leave I was presented with a surprise goody bag – Being the good girl that I am, I waited until I got home and opened the goody bag courtesy of Mark, which was filled with lots of sweet treats (which hubby helped me devour) and surprises including a rather cute Marc Jacobs mirror and a best of 2012 Niemierko Wedding DVD to be inspired by.
The attention to detail paid to us on the day by Mark and his team were second to none. If he pays this much attention to little old wedding bloggers like me, then brides you are in for a real treat! A rather lovely way to spend a Valentines Day!
