Another beautiful real wedding to share with you, this time from the beautiful Charis formerly of: Confession of a Bride-to-be) who I have been joyfully following on her wedding planning journey and was thrilled when she agreed to share her wedding on Nu Bride.
Charis and Menelik got married in St James Church, in Bushey Hertfordshire, followed by the reception at Bushey Golf and Country Club on the 28th July 2012 (just when summer decided to start behaving like summer!)
Charis’ full wedding report can be found here:
Take it away Charis! ;o) Thank you so much for sharing with us!
Choosing my dress was a bit of a fluke. You see all these program’s where the bride cries when she finds her perfect dress….. This did not happen to me. I put it on, liked it and thought ‘yeah l’ll get that one’.
My husband was even there when I got the dress, he also helped me get into it. So untraditional.
There was one main reason why I picked the dress though and that was purely for the train. It had a beautiful lace back and with all my guests looking at my back for the better part of our wedding ceremony I knew I had to get a dress with a pretty back. The price tag was great too as it was from a sample sale, which meant I basically got it for half price.
Looking back I can’t really think of a best memory of planning my wedding. I know that I enjoyed all of it, However as the wedding got closer and closer I remember thinking that I couldn’t wait for the wedding planning to be over.
I loved my day from start to finish, but if I had to pick the best bit, I would say it was our first dance.
My evening dress was a surprise for many of my guest and my husband. He knew I was having a dress made, but had no idea what it would look like. I wanted something that I could move in and it turned out better than I had expected. It also went really well with the bridesmaids dresses.
We has decided from the very start that we would dance to a song by the reggae artist Taurus Riley called ‘Stay with You’. As we headed to the dance floor my husband did a little speech and the song began to play, but instead of the original version of the song a totally personalised version began to play.
As a wedding present for me my wonderful husband had contacted the artist and he re-recorded the song with our names, wedding date and made it personal to us. At this point me and a few of our guest burst into tears. It was wonderful.
My advice to other brides to be it would be don’t stress. I decided I wouldn’t stress out about my wedding and I didn’t. Don’t sweat about the little things. Some of your guests notice them but most of them don’t.
On your day make time to talk to as many of your guests as you can. The first time I had an actual conversation with my new husband was at the hotel that night.
But above all enjoy it, it’s your day.
