Happy Sunday Readers! A slight diversion from my usual wedding posts….
Today I spent Father’s Day
walking running Race For Life (sorry Dad, make it up to you next week), in memory of a beautiful friend, colleague, wife and mum, Corinne. I had the pleasure of running with a team of over thirty women, children and teenagers; including Corinne’s gorgeous daughter Charlotte. Corinne was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2010 and sadly lost her battle in June last year.
She was and still is an inspiration. Her integrity, strength and gracious spirit, right until the end was incredibly admirable. Doing her best at making the most of each day left and adding her little unique French sense of humour with her delicious French accent (did I mention she used to do voiceovers for Eurotrash!) to lighten the situation. Never once did she complain about the hand she had been dealt with and the little time left she had to spend with her wonderful husband and daughter. She truly touched so many people along the way with her magical spirit. We were sure she was responsible for the glorious sun that shone on us all day today. (Yay no rain!)
I often find myself wanting to fill her in on some of my wedding planning stories as she knew how much I wanted to get married and often hoped my fiancé would pull his finger out and propose, but sadly I wasn’t able to share in that happiness with her.
It was a wonderful day (despite the mud and my disdain for running long distances lol! ) – with such an infectious energy from other women and children running for people in their lives battling, battled or overcome by cancer. It was emotional reading and hearing who some of these wonderful women were running for – one lady was running for her mother and father who she lost to cancer, her sister in remission, and herself still fighting. Humbled that so many people from different walks of life came together on this day sharing one thing in common and sharing jokes, tears and smiles along they way.
Today I will be raising a glass for Corinne, our little French Firecracker, forever in our hearts and to all of you, survivors and fighters and all those touched by cancer, I salute you. Heaven certainly has gained an angel.
Corinne – Our Little French Firecracker
Ps. I forgot to mention, we more than doubled our target and have so far raised £3645 for Cancer Research….overwhelmed by the support we received. Lets hope the survivor rate continues to flourish. Thank you all very much. xxx https://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/chatterboxes1
