World Wide Wed – I Want to be in America….

I hope you have enjoyed part one , part two and the real bride submission of the World Wide Wed series, today for the final instalment – a touch of America.

Over a glass of wine a few years ago before we were engaged, my beloved thought it would be appropriate to suggest that we got married on a whim in Las Vegas…. I can only assume he was drunk, in fact I remember asking him that very question… He stated that ‘the most important thing would be that we would become husband and wife and at least we would be married sooner (less cost) and we could celebrate with family and friends at a later date’…. Hmmm, he had convinced me enough to google ‘Las Vegas weddings’ …. However, the first thing that popped up on my screen was a plastic Elvis Priestly figurine standing outside a chapel singing “Viva Las Vegas”! Cue: laptop lid rapidly closing. Totally vexed that he would even suggest such a thing, I told him not to speak to me for the rest of the weekend. Lol!

Of course if you want something different, there are a vast array of stunning wedding options that Las Vegas has to offer, that don’t include plastic singing Elvis figurines! A romantic and intimate outdoor ceremony with just the stars or panoramic views as your backdrop, followed by a ride on gondola’s, or a chapel ceremony along the lively strip followed by some of the worlds best entertainment and casinos.

In fact, real bride Emma will be getting married there in August and found Las Vegas to be the perfect choice… Minimal fuss and still picturesque and for her and her bride groom it was important for their wedding to be honest and just about them. So stay tuned for an update on this!

My fiancé and I have always loved parts of America and New York is a huge favourite of ours! Today we are joined by Claire Ady of Wed in Central Park to give you a taste of getting married in the beautiful surroundings of Central Park, New York! (who knew you could get married in a park!)

Originally from Stoke on Trent England, Claire moved to Manhattan New York and following her own wedding set up her own business; Wed in Central Park, specialising in helping couples from around the world plan their wedding in Central Park…. Over to you Claire!

Nu Bride Guest Post by Claire Ady:

When my husband Noel and I started to talk about getting married, Central Park is our favourite part of the New York so it seemed an easy choice.

We decided to have a small wedding, just us two, our dog and two of our New Yorker friends, so we got married in the Ladies’ Pavilion, which is a private area on the lake.

We had photos taken on Bow Bridge and by Bethesda Fountain. In the evening the two of us went for
dinner at a lesser-known Upper East Side hotel with fantastic views of the Manhattan skyline and watched the sun go down (whilst drinking Manhattan cocktails!)

Our wedding day was so perfect for us and just so easy! All the big weddings I have been to back home in England have been great fun for me as a guest, but the idea of organising such a huge event, endless
decision-making and the pressure of being the centre of attention for a day has never appealed to me.

Wed in Central Park can offer an alternative for couples. It was after planning my own wedding that I decided to set up a business to help other people make their New York wedding dreams come true!

Planning big weddings in the UK can be costly and unaffordable. Some couples would rather invest their money on their homes or their children for example. It’s surprising how affordable a wedding in New York can be and choosing a park as your venue greatly reduces your costs.

Organising a wedding abroad can be very daunting and here at Wed in Central Park we recognise that. Our knowledge of trustworthy and credible suppliers helps ease the planning pressures.

Our officiant, Raquel has been officiating weddings for 12 years. Raquel is an ordained interfaith minister.

Our photographer and videographer team are a couple who have been living and working together in New York’s trendy East Village since the 1980s. They specialise in weddings and are an awesome team to watch working together, I love to watch them bouncing artistic ideas off each other. Their second specialism is event photography at the gay parties in the East Village. Now that New York has recently legalised same-sex weddings we would love to organise a gay wedding this year.
