This isn’t the first time I’ve raved about humanist wedding ceremonies. I love the freedom they give couples to create a ceremony around them and their […]

Over to Nakisha for the details. And boy oh boy, the proposal story is GOOD!
How You Met
Kevin and I met in college. We had the same classes together for the remainder of my time there because graduate and undergraduate courses were combined for our major. I began to work for one of our instructors and he came into the office and started talking to me. We exchanged numbers and the rest is history!
Kevin planned out this elaborate weekend for us in the mountains of Front Royal, Virginia. He told me we were going to go help with yard work and errands at his parent’s but after we got breakfast, he said that he wanted to surprise me and take me to a quiet weekend away from where we lived.
Prior to this moment his behaviour had changed and I was suspicious but wasn’t sure what he was up to. (Nu Bride: LOL sounds familiar) My girlfriends had convinced me to get my nails and pedicure done. They also wanted me to purchase a dress.
So I thought he was either going to propose at dinner somewhere by his parent’s house since he had told me that’s what we were doing that weekend. I had the whole sweatpants and big t-shirt get up on when he told me we were actually going someplace else. I was texting my friends freaking out because I felt I was now dressed for the wrong occasion.
However, it turns out I wasn’t because he planned for us to go horseback riding! When done there, we made our way to the hotel he had booked all on his own (I normally take care of travel arrangements)! He made me wait in the car while he checked in and then made me stay in one room while he did his secretive shenanigans with the car.
That actually worked out because I needed to get ready for the dinner reservations he made at this little bistro nearby.
Fast forward to us arriving at the bistro called the Wine & Duck. We walk in and there’s hardly anyone in this restaurant. Little did I know, he had planned the entire event with the wait staff and head chef. He had a table reserved for the two of us and we sat down.
Once I sat down he abruptly told me he “left something in the car” he came back in with this huge box and walked into the back of the restaurant like he worked there. When he came back to sit down I was now extremely nervous and told him I definitely saw him walk in with a humongous box in his hands. He just laughed and looked at the menu.
When we got to the dessert I ordered mine and he jumped up and went to the back of the restaurant again. He came back a few moments later and then started telling me how much he loved me and before I knew it he was on one knee with a ring asking me to marry him. Then the chef brought out my favourite dessert Tiramisu (imported from Italy) which said “Will you marry me?” and 2 dozen red roses! I was stunned but only a few happy tears!
We dated for 4 years before getting engaged so we often talked about marriage but it’s one thing to talk about it and here he was taking the steps to actually start doing it!!
He was always getting into trouble with me because of his odd behaviour that he apparently didn’t think I would notice, like leaving in the late night for over an hour! It turned out he forgot to get flowers and went to purchase them so I wouldn’t see them! (Nu Bride: Brilliant lol)
Oh you romantics you. I just LOVE the proposal details. Congratulations Kevin and Nakisha. Thank you for sharing your love story with us.
