Modern Beach Wedding in Croatia | Katja and Simon

Oh this wedding brings me pure joy the moment I clapped my eyes on it.

With Croatia becoming an ever growing hot spot to visit, I wanted to share this nautical infused beach wedding with you.

Meet the delightful Nina and Matej both from Slovenia, who married on stunning beach in the middle of wonderful romantic, Pinezici beach, Island Krk in Croatia, a place they hold Dear to them. The place they frequented visited on hot summers. The place they got engaged. Sand, sea, glamour and infectious smiles. This most beautiful free-spirited, stylish seaside wedding, with the most stunning and considered DIY touches awaits you.

Captured and submitted by talented Slovenian based destination wedding photographers Katja & Simon I asked them to share a few words:

Nina and Matej’s wedding was amazing day full of love and happiness! We are so happy to have had the opportunity to do the photoshoot on the boat, which doesn’t happen often. We loved how everyone was relaxed and how the couple did not stress about the schedule or whether everything was going according to plan. Even the dark clouds over the sea didn’t scare them and they embraced the day as it was and made it their own.

I know you will love this wedding as much as I do and I look forward to sharing more of Katja and Simon’s incredible work  on Nu Bride.

Handing over to the beautiful Nina to give you the gorgeous details!

The Proposal

Romantic Modern Beach Wedding in Croatia | Katja and Simon

The proposal was a big surprise for me. It was an ordinary weekend, spring just started so we decided to head out to island Krk, where we go whenever we have time. We went to our favourite pastry shop and had our morning coffee (threw in some cake as well  ) and then Matej drove me to a beautiful bay, which was totally empty that day. There he got down on his knee (or as he likes to tell it to his friends – he tripped and fell on one knee) and made me cry in a second and I quickly said YES!

In the afternoon some friends came to visit and we celebrated with some champagne and already discussed about our future wedding.

Coming Together

I always wanted a simple wedding on the beach, where I could stare at the sunset and dance under the stars.

Matej liked the idea of a seaside wedding so we started with the planning.

Island Krk and the Pinezići beach is our second home, so what better place to pick than here! We got engaged in March and decided to tie the knot in September. So we were left with only 6 months of planning.

A lot of other things were very important as well, like my dress and my husband’s suit, the food and cake, but everything was planned according to how it suited the location

The moment I saw something else I fell in love with the another one, even before i tried it and chose this beautiful dress from Terrani Couture http://www.teranicouture.com/

The wedding theme was inspired by the location, our main colour was navy blue and we used some local elements in the wedding as well – olive branches, sea salt, rocks from the beach.

When we started to plan the wedding we first contacted our photographers Katja and Simon, even before selecting a date because we knew from the start that we want the best, most beautiful and most crazy pictures … memories of a unique event, which shall remain with us forever.

Katja and Simon are a very good team, they complement one another, so it is unlikely that any important moment would remain unseen.

They never run out of ideas and vision, each picture is unique. When we saw pictures of our wedding we were speechless. Thank you from the heart.

The Ceremony

We had a wonderful and emotional ceremony, accompanied with hot sun on one side and dark storm coming from the other side of the sky.

After the ceremony and champagne, we took an old fishing boat and head to the storm to do some spectacular shots. So, the boat ride was our most favourite part of our wedding day.

The Reception

Since we organised everything by ourselves, our family and close friends came to the island a day early to help us out. Me and the girls did the decoration and the gifts, while the guys helped Matej install the altar he build from recycled wood. Everyone helped in some way or other and we had so much fun, just during the preparation. I am truly grateful for all of them being there for me and Matej.

As I mentioned before, this beach is like a second home to me and my husband. It is not a typical wedding venue ( I think there were only two weddings here before ours), which made it even more special and intimate.

The cake:  We chose a local type of cake called Krcka Kneginja, a cake that was made for Royals in the 18th century. The cake is usually covered in chocolate, but we decided to go with a simple whipped cream and some olive tree leaves for decoration.

Our first dance was to Fly me to the moon – Frank Sinatra

Tips to other couples

1.Pick a photographer first.

The wedding day goes by so fast, but the wedding photos are there to keep the memories alive. So choosing the right photographer is the first thing on the list.

2. Then choose the location.

Pick a place you really like and choose the theme of the wedding based on that. Do not over think things, it might be too far for some of your family or friends, but this is your day and you should decide how and where you want to spent it.

3. Both be involved in the planning, the more time we spent planning our wedding day, the more it meant to us at the end. We wouldn’t change a thing.
