Another delightful wedding couple to share with you today!
Meet beautiful bride Elizabeth of British heritage and handsome groom, William of Ghanaian heritage, who were married in a joyous ceremony in Kent on the 6th August 2016.
They married and an uplifting ceremony featuring soulful gospel music at the grand St Paulinus Church, Crayford followed by a sophisticated soirée reception at Hall Place, Bexley.
With a very glamorous theme featuring in dapper bow-ties and a rather stunning wedding party, they decided to honour both of their heritage by having a western wedding, whilst incorporating traditional Ghanaian dress and throwing a lively Ghanaian party the next day.
They chose the fabulous Michael from My Beautiful Bride to capture their big day. Welcome back wonderful Michael
Over to Elizabeth for the delicious details!
We were in Mexico on holiday, on our first full day there, Will booked us in for massages and afterwards we went to the pool to chill. A little while later we went back to our room to get changed for lunch (I was very hungry by this point and a little moany. Whoops!) As we went on the balcony the Jacuzzi was on and filled with rose petals and there was champagne on the table.
I still didn’t click what was happening and thought that the hotel had a really good cleaning service! Will then proposed and we celebrated for the rest of the holiday!
We both wanted a sophisticated yet fun wedding. The outfits and venue incorporated the sophisticated side and the music, dancing, first dance encapsulated the fun we wanted.
We found it hard to represent Ghana throughout our theme, so we decided to have a Ghanaian party the next day along. To represent Ghana on the day itself, the groom’s family were dressed in traditional Ghanaian outfits and also made sure we had Ghanaian music played at the wedding.
I got my dress from Blackburn Bridal in Blackheath. We went there on an off chance as my sister in law wanted to take her mind off my niece having her first day at nursery! We had heard good things about it so decided to book an appointment. The staff were fabulous and as soon as I put my dress on I knew it was the one. I didn’t want to take it off. It was only the second shop I visited so the process was fairly straight forward.
Will got his suit from Chester Barrie which came highly recommended by my cousin. Will always knew he wanted a stylish 3 piece suit and fell in love with one that he found there.
We chose Michael Clements from My Beautiful Bride as our photographer. He was very professional yet so warm and friendly. He completely understood what style we wanted for our photos.
Andy Bird was our videographer who we would definitely recommend. Very discreet to the point you wonder how he filmed certain parts as you didn’t realise he was there!
Getting married in a church was important to us both and we got married at the church I grew up attending.
We wanted to incorporate the fun element of our wedding in our ceremony as well, so we hired a gospel choir to sing throughout. One of the best decisions we made. It made everyone relax and really enjoy the service.
One of the absolute best moments was walking through the Lynch gate at the church having just got married, with all our friends and family there throwing confetti. Such a lovely and wonderful feeling!
Such a wonderful moment of the day was when Wills’ dad coming out in Ghanaian dress singing a song to me whilst waving his napkin- in the end every guest was on their feet singing and waving their napkins in the air, it was such a fantastic moment!
We split our first dance in two. For the first part we danced to Beyonce, Love on top and then it cut into Candy by Cameo (Nu Bride: Tuuunnee!) for which we were joined on the dance floor by all the best men and bridesmaids.
Challenges and Triumphs
We definitely found that working together as a team is key. Will was really hands on in making decisions which was great and we had regular meetings with my mum to plan the wedding. This allowed us to keep on top of everything and we also then knew what still needed to be done.
We found the endless decisions quite challenging but we got there in the end!
One Tip To Other Couples
Know what you both want from your wedding day and don’t lose sight of it. Also- don’t worry about the little details too much, you can get easily carried away but actually what matters at the end of the day is that you get married and have lots of fun! This will happen because of who you are as a couple and who your family and friends are- not because you bought favours or had petals down the aisle!
