I have another delightful love story to share with you today!
Meet the very gorgeous, Sashka, former Nu Bride reader and her husband Oneil, both of Jamaican heritage and who had a summer London wedding in July 2015.
They were married in a touching and joyful ceremony at St Faiths Church, North Dulwich and then celebrated in style at a glamorous, colourful by a reception at Club Langley, Beckenham, south London
With a coral theme and a touch of glamour. They knew they wanted a wedding true to Jamaican form, centred around great atmosphere and good food!
They chose talented Lorna from Story Wedding Photography to capture their wedding day memories.
Lorna said: It truly was the most joyful wedding I have ever captured and hope my images reflect such
Over to Sashka for her rundown of the gorgeous day!
Oneil proposed to me at my mother’s birthday dinner, it was a total surprise. Oneil and my mother planned it together, it was a really special and intimate moment that I will never forget.
We chose Lorna from Story Wedding Photography as our photographer. I would absolutely recommend her, she is a wonderful soul and an amazing photographer.
I knew coral looked lovely on dark skin tones and paired with gold it would add the sophisticated glamour I wanted for our wedding day.
I had an idea in mind and wanted to be able to execute our wedding well, without breaking the bank. So I was always online searching through wedding blogs, on Pinterest (My friend and enemy at times), trying to find ways to make my idea come together. Plus a few DIY’s helped me achieve certain looks and cut costs.
Jamaican weddings are usually known for the atmosphere, as Caribbean’s, we love good music and most importantly Great FOOD! So I knew we have to find the right DJ and Caterer.
I know all brides probably say this, but my wedding dress was absolutely gorgeous!
I had tried on a few dresses before in various stores, but when I tried on this dress at Teokath of London, I had a moment.
This is funny because, I initially looked past it, but it caught my mother’s eye and she encouraged me to try it on. To this day, she proudly declares she found the dress. (Nu Bride: LOL! Mother knows best)
Oneil’s suit was custom-made and chosen by him, from the fabric to the colour of the stitching. We were struggling to find a tailored suit in beige that had a tuxedo style waistcoat. So, he did a little research and found a tailor near where we lived called Daniel & Lade , who make amazing suits.
The ceremony was a blessing, as a Christian couple it was important to seal the union of our marriage with God. Having our close family and friends there just made the day even more magical.
My favourite moment of our ceremony was taking our vows and looking to each other eyes, knowing that this person is here for you for life.
Funniest part of the day was Oneil’s performance in Church, just before we final kissed as husband and wife, he moisturised his lips, then had some water and wiped his head with a handkerchief. Our guests, myself included was cracking up.
I really wanted a summer wedding and I loved the colour coral. So, I immediately chose that as our colour scheme.
For our first dance, we danced to Monica – Love All Over Me. I have loved that song since forever and whenever I heard it, I saw myself dancing to it on my wedding day.
During our first dance we was just lost in each other, I can’t remember who or what was happening around us. In that moment we held each other and it was just us.
One tip for other couples
Enjoy and take in every moment of your wedding day because the day goes super quick.
