I had the pleasure of visiting White Gallery London last week during bridal fashion week in London, to get an exclusive snoop from some of the […]
Sending you a little note and heartfelt thank you for choosing out of all the other great blogs out there to continue to follow Nu Bride.
I am thrilled to let you know for the third year running, I swooped an award at the 2016 Wedding Blog Awards. I won the Panels Choice Award for Best Wedding Vlogger on Friday at five-star treasure the Andaz Hotel in Liverpool Street, for the annual wedding blog awards in its fourth year.
For a number of reasons I wasn’t sure I would make to the awards this year, nor did I think I would win, nor did I think I deserved to win, after what has been a challenging year personally. But with some industry encouragement, I got my act together and made my way to the big smoke.
I spent the evening fighting off any last-minute nerves having a pre-event pamper and epic makeover with Malkia Roberts at her stylish home studio in London. Now let me spend a moment on Malkia. We’ve been emailing back and forth this year and already felt like we knew each-other for years, but only met for the first time last week. Not only is she a fantastic artist (AND photographer), she is open, honest, incredibly generous, warm and hilarious. We spent most of the evening putting the worlds to rights, discussing race and identity, to politics, childhood, weddings, property, babies and food! You name it! It was like catching up with an old friend. SUCH a delight to be around and I absolutely adored my make up.
I didn’t tell Malkia what make up look I wanted (because I didn’t know lol), I simply showed her what I was wearing and let her work her magic and she transformed me into this!

She even had time to show off her photography skills and papped me as I was admiring her work!
Thank you Malkia!
And with that, I donned a 4-year-old frock from All Saints and made my merry way.
Fashionably late as usual. The room was already brimming with industry professionals and bloggers, kitted out with blooms by the talented Simon Nickell, one of Nu Bride Ambassadors Elizabeth Solarus‘ masterpieces which I could spot a mile off, all the while being and Serenaded by The In Crowd
The event was hosted by the ridiculously charming Gethin Jones, who seemed to be quite a hit with the ladies (and gents!)
Aside from having the opportunity to catch-up with some of my nearest and dearest, a highlight for me was finally getting to meet Natasha; former BBC journalist, celebrant and blogger over at Engaged and Ready. She gives the best HUGS! Natasha has been such a huge supporter of Nu Bride for many years now and kindly attributed some of her inspiration to start blogging, down to me. Something I had no idea about until that moment. Truly touched. It was also Natasha that wrote this heartfelt blog post about what my win meant to her after I won my very first blog award in 2014. So to come around full circle and to both be sitting on the stage as two black women at the Wedding Blog Awards was pretty special.
My award was given in honour of my cheeky vlog posts, which I hope to do MUCH more of in the new year, where I will also be looking for fun couples to take part in my silliness too! So if you’re an extrovert, make yourself known to me!
If you have missed the vlogs or a new to Nu Bride, you can subscribe to my YouTube channel and catch up on my live video’s here. It may look easy, but being on camera is no easy feat, there are so many moving components and trying to remember my lines is the least of my problems. (spoiler alert – I keep my ipad with notes on my lap to help!) But I so enjoy it.

I can’t go without acknowledging and thanking the talented collection of cinematographers that have helped me produce these and witness all my baffling buffoonery and getting regularly tongue-tied mid-filming. Without them my, vlogs would be pretty pants. lol! So a special thank you to HD Moments and Nu Bride Ambassadors John Nassari and Urban Cinematogrpahy and to all my talented industry friends who have allowed me to step into their world and film them.
Enough waffling from me. Thank you Wedding and Wedding Flowers Magazine for your continued support and Nu Bride love!
