Now it’s not everyday you get contacted by one of your Ambassadors for a day of pampering.
Nu Bride Ambassador Joyce Connor contacted me to offer me a bit of a pamper, whilst keen to showcase a flexible make up look on black skin, using superior make up products that offer great choice for women of all ethnicities; so asked me to be her muse. With the gorgeous No.4 Hamilton Place as our backdrop and the brilliant Cecelina Photography in tow, of course I was only happy to oblige!
Over to Joyce.
I’ve been in the cosmetics industry for about 20 years. I absolutely love make up, but up until recent years, I’ve always struggled to find great make up products for my skin tone.
The hunt began and I started to find a great array of make up products in the United States, so much so I started bringing make up back with me every time I visited. Thankfully, now there are a great variety of brands available in the UK that provide make up for all skin tones and these are the brands I prefer to use professionally and personally.
I wanted to give Nova a makeover (Nu Bride: I needed one, rough as old boots me!) that she could take from day-to-night. It’s a light flattering look for her skin tone and easy to achieve.
The colour on her eyes is enough to enlarge them and make her eyes stand out. The lip colour is glossy but not too dramatic for day wear.
I chose to use a palette of colours used are within the plum and violet spectrums.
The results as you will see are gorgeous, natural and not a heavy application.
Start by cleansing, toning, eye cream and moisturise
Cleanser – Bioderma Micellar Water Crealine H20
Toner – Caudalie Beauty Elixir
Eye Cream – Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm
Moisturiser – Embryolisse Lait Cream Concentrate
Use a corrector to even out any pigmentation or blemishes.
Apply liquid foundation with a large synthetic brush.
Colour match your foundation on your jaw line and blend well so there are no lines.
Corrector – House of Glamdolls Glambase Wheel 2
Foundation – Make Up Atelier Paris shade FLWTN4 (Nu Bride – I loved the coverage this foundation gave me and not heavy at all!)
Dot concealer around the eye area to brighten eyes and even up skin colour. Blend well with a finger right up to the lashes.
Use a setting Powder to set the make up, by lightly dusting it all over the face.
Use a powder or pencil to fill the eyebrow colour. Use a lighter shade than your own eyebrow colour to give a realistic look. Start with a matte shade on the eyelids that’s close to your own skin tone. Then press a shimmer or satin eyeshadow over the top up to the crease. Finish with a darker shade on the outer corner of the eye. Blend well to erase lines! (Nu Bride: Shhh…What lines Joyce!?! lol)
Apply eyeliner as close to the lashes above and under the lower lashes to enhance the eyes
Pencil the line first and then a gel liner for greater impact
To give the illusion of fuller thicker lashes, apply mascara above and below the top lashes
Highlight the top of the cheekbones to give a soft glow
Add a touch of blusher and blend well from the apple of the cheek towards the ears
Outline the lips with a lip pencil and fill with your chosen lipstick or lipgloss
Ta-da! Simple when you know how!
As an avid MAC user, it was a breath of fresh air to be introduced to new products by Joyce. I’m particularly fond of ….the coverage was so smooth and as someone who always wears clear or red lipstick (unless Joyce is pimping me up, it’s always nice to experiment with new colours on my lips.)
I had such a lovely day with these two ladies, I have worked with Cecelina before, but not on this side of the camera and she is just brilliant at getting the best out of you with pretty little effort. She’s also hilarious.
Joyce and Cecelina unknowingly they gave me the biggest boost at a time when boy did I need it!
Thank you ladies.
Be inspired and discover some of these great products Joyce recommends.
