A journey of many years of friendship culminated in this moment, where I finally had my queen….We’ve had a journey so far, but this is just the start. Anything is possible with her next to me…
I have another delicious real wedding share with you today filled with such joy, captured by the very brilliant My Beautiful Bride.
Meet the very beautiful Tosin of Nigerian heritage and handsome groom, Matthew of Scottish and Zambian heritage. With a love for songwriting that bought them together, Tosin and Matthew married on 1st October 2015, they chose to hold their beautiful wedding that celebrated their Faith, love of music and style, at Northbrook Park, Farnham Surrey with a personal music-fillled Christian ceremony led by their pastor, followed by a delicious Nigerian cuisine and night full of joy and dancing.
It’s been such a delight editing this wedding for you. Over to the happy newlyweds who gave me the details of their beautiful day.
Tosin had spent a year abroad working in New York, on the last few weeks of her time there Matthew came to visit and organised a surprise trip to Cayman Islands. (Nu Bride: Oh he’s definitely a keeper!) On the last night of our stay at a restaurant on Seven Mile beach, Matthew proposed!
We were keen to ensure that our wedding represented us in our Faith, our love of music and vintage, rustic style.
The venue was really us. Northbrook Park was such a beautiful setting that captured the ambience that natural lighting created, which we loved. We are both Christians and our Marriage Ceremony was led by our Pastor and was special moment for us to make this amazing commitment to each other before God. In regards to music, we had live music in the ceremony but also us singing for each other was special because it took us back to how we first met. Which was through songwriting when we were back at school.
We chose My Beautiful Bride as our photographer – we would definitely recommend Michael Clements. He captured our wedding so beautifully with such special detail. He orchestrated the mass of family and friend for group photos with incredible ease, assertiveness and cheer. He caught moments that we believe only he could have. We are able to look back on the day and truly re-live the moments and we’re so grateful. Plus he is a great guy, many a conversation before the wedding was spent just having great chats about music, travelling etc. – really helped ease the pressure. Thanks Michael! (Nu Bride: What a wonderful accolade!)
We chose Unique Visuals to capture our wedding film for us and would thoroughly recommend them too, for their great customer service in keeping us informed and engaging as with the artistic nature they film in. On the day we barely noticed they were there, but we knew they were capturing all the right moments. Seeing the quality of their work beforehand, meant we had the utmost confidence in what they were doing. They had great attention to detail without being imposing. If anyone is looking for a super high-quality cinematic movie, we definitely recommend Unique Visuals!
Tosin’s favourite moment of the day was walking down the aisle and seeing Matthew waiting for me with a beaming smile.
We both burst out laughing when I reached the end out of sheer happiness and disbelief that we had finally made it to this point. 10 years of friendship and love and we were finally getting married.
We had a lot of Nigerian influences from the food which was buffet style with Nigerian main dishes including jollof rice, plantain, chicken, fried rice to name a few (Nu Bride: YUM) – to a lot of the wedding outfits of our guests and the music. We also had a lot of Zambian influences with music and dancing.
In fusing our cultures we both were keen to incorporate vintage and floral themes that had been inspirations to what we wanted our wedding to incorporate. We had centrepieces and beautiful floral arrangements that had a slightly rustic feel and the venue embraced the natural lighting and green nature surroundings that embody our personal style and personality.
Our funniest moment was when our wedding MC Adot, off the back of the best man speech getting the best man to go up to a lady that he had his eye on at the wedding, in front of all the guests. He picked one the bridesmaids, safe to say they were embarrassed but it made for a great laugh.
We had a great DJ, DJ Mri, who got people dancing in the evening and our wedding MC was a hilarious comedienne Adot who kept everybody entertained and good spirits through out the night. We also had a handmade photo booth for our guests to take polaroid pictures while holding up a vintage style photo frame. We both surprised each other with songs we’d prepared, a moment which our guess also enjoyed.
Our first dance was ‘Together’ by Chrisette Michele – not a lot of practice went on, but we had fun.
Matthew shares his favourite moment: …running through the tunnel of sparklers at the end of the night to our chauffeured car. A journey of many years of friendship culminated in this moment, where I finally had my queen. My thought in that moment was, we’ve had a journey so far, but this is just the start. Anything is possible with her next to me.
Challenges and Triumphs
The main challenge was the guest list.
Our parents had guests as well as our own which made it difficult to manage and invite everyone we wanted to or decided who came.
Time management was also difficult, when you have so much going in the day to day it made it hard to plan but we had the help of Sakeena Banful at By Sakeena.
One Tip for other couples
On the day there is not much more you can do, make sure to let go on the day and cherish each moment.
Someone told me before my wedding that one thing you must make sure you do is at some point in the day, whether sitting at the reception or walking around to greet guests, take a second to look around and stop and take in the awesomeness of this moment, it wont come back again so take the time to enjoy every second.
Excellent advice Tosin and Matthew, thank you for sharing a snippet into your beautiful love story and inspiring readers with the beauty of your wedding day. Many congratulations!
